Cannes fave Emilia Pérez, the French crime movie musical applauded on the Croisette back in May, has received a release date by Netflix as well as a new teaser trailer. Jacques Audiard directs and wrote the screenplay for the film which will have a limited theatrical release on 25th October before hitting Netflix on 13th November.
In Cannes, the film won the Jury Prize and its female ensemble won the Best Actress award.
The feature, which is in the Spanish language, is described as an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations. Through liberating song and dance and bold visuals, this odyssey follows the journey of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness. The fearsome cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón) enlists Rita (Zoe Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self.
