Interviews with the cast and crew of ‘Cinderella’s Curse’ from FrightFest

Louisa Warren’s Cinderella’s Curse opened the Discovery Screen strand of programming at this year’s Pigeon Shrine FrightFest. Following in the footsteps of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, Cinderella’s Curse places a horror spin on the well known children’s story. Borrowing heavily from Carrie, Cinderella’s Curse is a micro-budget horror with high aspirations, which mostly work.

Once Upon a Time… the Disney princesses now get in on the horror legend act and here’s the first of a spine-chilling twist on a familiar fairy tale. Simple yet beautiful handmaid Cinderella (Kelly Ryan Sanson) wishes for love and happiness, but she finds herself ill-treated and abused daily by her evil stepsisters and stepmother, unable to escape their cruel clutches. Until she summons her fairy godmother (Chrissie Wunna) from an ancient flesh-bound book, who can grant Cinderella her greatest wish: ultimate revenge. Now with bloodlust, Cinderella goes to the ball to massacre those who have done her wrong before the hour strikes midnight.

Opening night at FrightFest is always busy on the media wall, and this year’s 25th anniversary edition was no exception. Not only did Cinderella’s Curse’s director, Lousia Warren, walk the media line, she was also joined by several of her key cast. Cinderella herself, Kelly Ryan Sanson, accompanied Louisa Warren, as did Danielle Scott, Natasha Tosini, and Lauren Budd, who play Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters respectively. The busy media wall granted THN the opportunity to dig a little deeper into the origins of Cinderella’s Curse, what makes this story work so well in the horror genre, making a film with so many kick-ass females, both in front and behind the camera, as well as when audiences can expect to see a sequel. Watch the red carpet interviews in full now.

Cinderella’s Curse screened at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest. Cinderella’s Curse UK release date is still to be announced.
