Tim Cruz’ Ladybug was one of THN’s highest reviewed films from this year’s Pigeon Shrine FrightFest. Not only is the story the right blend of spooky and sultry, but the cast is pure fire. Anthony Del Negro (who also co-wrote the film with Cruz) and co-star Zachary Roozen are electric on the screen together, and the addition of Scout Taylor-Compton as a catty art agent gives Ladybug some much needed comedy. Scout Taylor-Compton is of course better known from her turn as Laurie Strode in the Rob Zombie Halloween films.
In Ladybug, Grayson (Anthony Del Negro) is a young artist on the verge of major international success. To work on his next collection, titled ‘Ladybug’, without distraction, he decides to stay at the remote cabin owned by his family. With the cabin needing major repair work done, Grayson hires handyman Sawyer (Zachary Roozen) to fix the place. But handsome Sawyer is hiding a terrible secret, for he was murdered by a homophobic serial killer; his spirit is haunting the cabin, searching for long overdue justice. Now Grayson is being stalked by the same maniac responsible for the supernatural fate of his new lover.
Ladybug director, Tim Cruz, had a very busy FrightFest. In addition to screening his own film, Cruz also went on stage ahead of Azrael: Angel of Death. Being friends with Azrael’s director, E. L Katz, and writer Simon Barrett, who were both unable to attend the festival, Tim Cruz was on hand to deliver a specially written message. Then ahead of the world premiere of Ladybug, Tim Cruz was joined on the media wall by stars Anthony Del Negro, Zachary Roozen, and Scout Taylor-Compton. The team shared all about the creation of the film, including the real haunting that took place on set. Scout Taylor-Compton also told us about working with best friend Danielle Harris on the podcast, Talk Scary to Me, and when her podcast-proposed Kyle Gallner project might actually see the light of day.
Ladybug screened at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest. Ladybug does not have a UK release date set yet, but THN will update you as soon as one is announced.
