Charlie Hunnam to play serial killer Ed Gein in new Ryan Murphy ‘Monster’ series

Ahead of the debut of season two this week.

Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is set to play notorious serial killer in Ryan Murphy’s third season of Monster on Netflix. The announcement was made by Murphy himself on an on-stage presentation stateside on Monday night.

The anthology series relaunches with season two this Thursday with that series focussing on the Lyle and Erik Menéndez who were convicted of the murder of their parents’ in the 1990s. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story stars Nicholas Chavez as Lyle Menéndez, Cooper Koch as Erik Menéndez, Javier Bardem as José Menéndez and Chloë Sevigny as Kitty Menéndez. Nathan Lane is also among the cast.

The first season revolved around serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer which is ranked as the third most watched show in Netflix history.

The planned third season will see Hunnam as Gein who inspired the characters of Norman Bates in Psycho and Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.
