Lionsgate has released the trailer for Small Things Like These and has also announced a release date for the Cillian Murphy-led film which will land on screens in November.
The film also features the acting talents of Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley, Clare Dunne, Helen Behan, and a brilliant Emily Watson. I saw this movie at this year’s Berlinale in February. The film opened the festival and got some great reviews from pretty much everyone who saw it.
Here’s the synopsis.
Oscar® winner Cillian Murphy delivers a stunning performance as devoted father Bill Furlong in this film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Claire Keegan. While working as a coal merchant to support his family, he discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent — and uncovers truths of his own — forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.
Of the film, I said in my Small Things Like These review:
“An engrossing, brooding drama and Murphy delivers a nuanced, softly spoken performance – up there with his best.”
Also; ‘A subtle, engrossing, and at times heartbreaking and thought-provoking adaptation of the source material.’
The source material being that of the best selling novel by Claire Keegan, here adapted by Enda Walsh.
Small Things Like These will arrive in UK cinemas on 1st November.
