Netflix has unveiled our first official look at the Peaky Blinders film over at Netflix. The movie has officially started production with Cillian Murphy returning to his iconic role of Tommy Shelby.
Alongside Murphy in the new movie is Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Mission Impossible), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Banshees of Inisherin), and Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight).
Writer and creator Steven Knight, pictured below with Murphy, said: “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II,”
“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
Set in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934, Peaky Blinders followed the rise (and sometimes fall) of the Shelby family as they navigated a world wracked with radical social, economic, and political change.
The series spanned six seasons and this is the first official Peaky Blinders film.
Tom Harper will direct the new film for the streamer and spoke with their Tudum site as filming began.
“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,”
“Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
“There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew,” Harper added. “We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.“
Filming is expected to take place in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc studios.
More as it comes in.
