The Wicked movie tickets have gone on pre-sale this week and it looks like they are being snapped up in their droves. The movie adaptation of the hit musical sees its first part hit screens this November and so far, it has had the 2nd biggest pre-sale of the year behind only Deadpool & Wolverine.
Based on one of the most beloved and enduring stage musicals in Broadway history, Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz, starring Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning and Oscar®-nominated powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her unusual green skin who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman gilded by privilege and ambition who has yet to discover her true heart.
Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle and Peter Dinklage lead out the main cast alongside Erivo and Grande.
As per Deadline, the Wicked movie tickets have so far reported sales of $96.1 million on its first day, and a three-day take of $211.4 million. That’s massive and it looks like the movie is on track for a $100 million-plus opening weekend.
What’s more, the creatives at the studio, Universal, has announced a massive global tour that’ll see venues in key cities across the planet transformed into the various ‘lands’ from the movie, all culminating in London’s Royal Festival Hall, currently the venue for the London Film Festival, being turned into Emerald City on November 18th.
