One of our guilty pleasures on the Netflix platform has to be the Extraction series and news reaches us today that a third movie is reportedly being worked on and a 2025 shoot might even happen. A big update and some massive Extraction 3 news below.
The Extraction 3 news comes from Joe and Anthony Russo who are said to be working on the story for the next adventure. The films, of course, revolve around Chris Hemsworth’s Black Ops mercenary Tyler Rake (pictured above).
Speaking at the New York Comic Con whilst out promoting their next big Netflix movie The Electric State, the duo gave an update on ‘Extraction 3’.
“We’re in the middle of working on that story right now. Hard at work. We’re hoping to go into production on it next year. It’s definitely filming next year. I’m just being cagey because it’s more fun.”

There could also be some more from Idris Elba’s mysterious character in the second movie in the next instalment, too. When asked whether we could see his return, the Russos had the following to say.
“Yes, we know who that character is. It was built that way. If you like that relationship between Idris and Chris [Hemsworth], you’re gonna enjoy Extraction 3 .”
Love this. As I said, I’ve been a fan since the first movie, saying in my original review: “Netflix is the suited format for this kind of movie, and the late-night can-in-hand crowd should lap it up. While the violence may put off some, and the many well-conceived set pieces are its biggest asset, there’s a lot going on here to applaud, not least the seemingly huge amount of blood and sweat that has gone into making it both in front and behind the camera. A very decent actioner.”
