The Substance streaming date has been revealed by distributors MUBI and it will be coming to a small screen near you sooner than you think.
The Substance is one our favourite movies of the year, and we’ve been itching to see it again after catching it at its world premiere back in May at the Cannes Film Festival. Well, now it looks like we’ll be able to catch it on the MUBI streaming service on Halloween – this Thursday, October 31st.
MUBI has announced that The Substance streaming date will be a proper Halloween treat for horror fans.
The Substance, aWorking Title Films production, is written, directed, co-produced and co-edited by Coralie Fargeat (Revenge), and stars Demi Moore (G.I. Jane, A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal), Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Maid, Kinds of Kindness, Fosse Verdon), and Dennis Quaid (Far from Heaven, The Rookie, The Day After Tomorrow).
Demi Moore gives a career-best performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by repellent studio head Harvey (Dennis Quaid).
She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: THE SUBSTANCE. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twenty-something Sue (Margaret Qualley).
The only rule? Time needs to be split: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. A perfect balance. What could go wrong?
Our review said of the film: A film that is sure to be divisive, The Substance is The Assistant meets Cronenberg by way of Society and Eric Prydz’s ‘Call On Me’ music video, and make no mistake, whatever your stance or interest in the genre, this feature, if you’re planning to see it, is one that has to be seen with an audience.
