A couple of days ago, our own Kat Hughes had the pleasure of introducing the new drama/ thriller Magpie at its Frightfest Halloween premiere. You can watch our full Daisy Ridley interview for the film at the event below.
Magpie will be released on digital through Signature Entertainment next week on 11th November and star Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Shazad Latif (What’s Love Got to Do With It?), Matilda Lutz (Revenge), Hiba Ahmed and Alistair Petrie (Sex Education).
When Ben and Anette’s daughter is cast in a film alongside glamorous movie star, Alicia, Ben is quickly drawn into Alicia’s world. As he becomes more intoxicated with Alicia and their affair intensifies, Anette is left at home with the baby, pushed to her emotional limits and psychologically on the brink, which leads to deadly consequences.
The film is described in the official press notes as a knotty British thriller that reveals the price we pay when the line between love and obsession blurs.
Of the film, we said: Magpie beautifully articulates the oppressive feelings of loneliness and isolation, with Daisy Ridley giving a captivating performance as a mother on the edge. Mix that with one of the most reprehensible male characters in recent times and Magpie becomes a riveting exploration of dark romance, temptation, and the crippling loneliness of life at home.
Our full review of Magpie can be read at the end of the link above.
Ahead of the film playing at the UK genre festival on Friday evening – actually opening the event – Kat caught up with Daisy Ridley, as well as director Sam Yates and writer Tom Bateman to talk about their new film.
