One of our go to movies each and every December has to be Will Ferrell-led festive frolic Elf. It is a film that is 21 years old this season, and it continues to delight old and new fans every Christmas.
Ferrell himself has been speaking to People magazine about the movie in which he plays an overgrown elf who travels from the North Pole to New York City to find his real family.
“It’s really quite special,” the actor said in a new interview with People . “I mean, it continues to grow by leaps and bounds, and it continues to kind of entrench itself as kind of a holiday classic for people. I’m so lucky to have a movie like that in my catalog.”
The film is directed by Jon Favreau, who went on to helm Iron Man a few years after.
Ferrell also said: “You never really have an idea of what’s going to land with people, and I love the fact that this movie continues to resonate in a way that’s pretty incredible.”
Elf has since been turned into a musical and a massive arena spectacle since its debut in cinemas in 2003. There, it made a whopping $220 million from a reported $33 million budget. Goodness knows how much more it has made in home set-ups from physical media and streaming.
The cast includes the likes of the late, great James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner and Bob Newhart. It was written by David Berenbaum who went on to pen the likes of Zoom, The Spiderwick Chronicles and The Haunted Mansion (2003).
