Peter Sarsgaard and Ben Chaplin discuss the creation of ‘September 5’ and tease ‘The Bride’

Peter Sarsgaard and Ben Chaplin are two of the stars of this week’s new release, September 5. The film, from director Tim Fehlbaum, tells the story of the 1972 Summer Olympics. During the event, which was held in Munich, several members of the Israeli team were taken hostage. As the terrifying scenario develops, members of ABC Sports find themselves in the prime position to report on the situation. Far out of their comfort zone, the team work together to traverse the unfolding tragedy, while the world watches on.

It is unbelievable that the story in September 5 is based on true events, and whilst the Munich Olympics have been the centre of several other films, none have placed the on-the-ground reporters into the spotlight in quite the same way. For September 5, Peter Sarsgaard and Ben Chaplin take on the roles of legendary TV executive Roone Arledge, and ABC Sports executive Marvin Bader respectively, two of the men at the top of the decision making process during the infamous broadcast.

September 5 is a riveting thriller that immerses the viewer in the world of the claustrophobic control room, with fantastic performances across the board. In the lead up to the release of September 5, THN were able to sit down with both Peter Sarsgaard and Ben Chaplin to discuss the film’s unique creation. Our conversation delved into the process of keeping the camera fluid and frenetic despite the almost one-room setting, the joy of working within a true ensemble cast, and lunch time delicacies. We also managed to grab some words from Peter Sarsgaard about his next acting project, The Bride, in which he compared the film’s lead, Jessie Buckley, to Jimi Hendrix.

September 5 is released in UK cinemas from 6th February 2025.
