Official: Matt Damon is playing Odysseus is Christopher Nolan’s next epic

We already knew he was in the cast but now we know who Matt Damon is playing in Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey. The Universal Pictures social media channels today revealed that Damon will play Odysseus in the epic film which is shooting in the UK, Scicily and Morrocco until the summer.

Odysseus, in Greek legend, was the wise and courageous king of Ithaca who is the hero of Homer’s Odyssey. 

As well as the announcement, they also issued the first official photo of Damon in the film which you can see below.

The cast also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Corey Hawkins, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Nick Tarabay, Will Yun Lee, Bill Irwin, Jesse Garcia, Shiloh Fernandez, Rafi Gavron, Maurice Compte and Jimmy Gonzales.

The film already has a release date of 17th July 2026. Nolan directs from his own screenplay.
