Will No Way Out: The Roulette Be Renewed for a Second Season?

With Squid Game stealing all the headlines, there are some great Korean series that may be slipping under a lot of people’s radars. No Way Out: The Roulette is one such offering, with the mystery thriller from Lee Soo-jin dropping on Disney+ in late 2024.

The series may have originally been planned as a standalone offering, but it may make sense for the original network U+ Mobile TV to renew it for a second outing. In doing so, it could ride the buzz for Korean content that Squid Game has generated.

Roulette Themes Could Appeal to a Vast Audience

Aside from Korean content being all the rage right now, No Way Out: The Roulette can take advantage of the fact that it takes inspiration from one of the world’s oldest and most popular games. Players are constantly looking for new ways to experience the game, and this is highlighted by innovative offerings like Live XXXtreme Lightning Roulette. The game features animations and multipliers, adding extra elements to the tried and tested formula of the wheel.

No Way Out: The Roulette isn’t centered on the classic gambling game, but it does use a lot of themes that have become synonymous with it. The whole premise of the show is that it’s shrouded in mystery and uncertainty, with viewers constantly on edge and wondering what’s going to happen next. It delivers some high octane thrills as well, similar to those found at the table when a wager is on the line.

Should Try to Ride the Current Korean Craze

Although Soo-jin may have only written No Way Out: The Roulette as a limited series, it would make a lot of sense for him to explore ways to continue it. This was the case with Squid Game, which was only supposed to last for a single season originally. Due to its popularity, Netflix demanded more content from creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, who then came up with a second and third season of the series.

Squid Game continues to break viewing records on Netflix, and other streaming services are desperate to find similar hits. The dystopian offering has also made more people go in search of other Korean series, so there’s a good chance that No Way Out: The Roulette will attract some of that traffic.

The series has been met with positive reviews and is made in a similar style to Squid Game. There are a lot of multi-layered characters that get caught in some tricky situations, and many of the episodes end on cliffhangers. This makes it extremely bingeworthy, and viewers are left wanting more when the season ends.

As it stands, there’s no season two confirmed for No Way Out: The Roulette, but the fact that it is available on Disney+ is promising. The streaming service may be hoping for its own Squid Game moment, and it could have picked up No Way Out: The Roulette for that reason. The company may end up commissioning future seasons so it can draw more attention to this offering.
