‘The Roses’ with Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman sets summer release

The Roses, a redo of The War Of The Roses, is set to hit cinemas this August, according to a report just posted by Variety.

The Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman-led film is set for screens this summer through Searchlight Pictures and will his U.S. cinemas (and possibly UK screens, too) on 29th August.

Jay Roach directs from a screenplay by Poor Things‘ Tony McNamara. The cast also includes Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow and Kate McKinnon.

Variety has the story outline, too:

Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Colman) and Theo (Cumberbatch) successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites.

The film is said to be inspired by the 1980s film The War of the Roses, which was directed by an co-starring Danny DeVito, with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as the central couple. It was based on the novel by Warren Adler
