We’ve some sad news this morning a reports are coming in that actor Val Kilmer has died at the age of 65. The Top Gun, Heat, and The Doors actor rose to fame in the 1980s film Willow, directed by Ron Howard. He then took to the skies in 1986 as the iconic Iceman in Tony Scott’s Top Gun, and a glittering Hollywood career followed.
Roles in the the likes of Tombstone, and True Romance followed and the actor also played Batman in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, and Simon Templar in The Saint.
Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but, after treatment, did go on to recover, though lost his ability to speak.
He appeared in 2021’s The Birthday Cake (pictured) and was to reprise his role of Iceman in the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, his last credit role.
Tributes have already started to come in from the Hollywood community. Actor Josh Brolin posted early Wednesday: “You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those.”
Kilmer’s daughter, Mercedes, told the New York Times that the cause of death was pneumonia. We’re hugely saddened by the news and our thoughts go out to his friends and family at this difficult time.
