The Michael Jackson biopic probably won’t arrive this year

A little late to this one but it looks like the Antoine Fuqua-helmed Michael Jackson biopic looks like it might be delayed. The film was set for a release later this year, but Lionsgate chief Jon Feltheimerheld an earnings call this past week, and because of various issues, a delay is looking ‘likely’.

“In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we’re excited about the three and a half hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy and timing in the next few weeks,”  CEO Jon Feltheimer said on the call. “I would note that it is likely we will move Michael out of the fiscal year which will impact fiscal ’26 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal ’27 slate.”

The call was in regards to Q4 2025 and the fiscal year which is set ti end on March 31, 2026, so it looks like the film will land on screens after then, as per Variety. The film was set to land in cinemas in October.

There are rumours that the film would also be split into two parts, but that hasn’t yet been confirmed.

In a separate report, it was revealed that reshoots on the film, titled simply Michael, could take place next month with 22 further filming days on the cards.
