Here’s a big one to start the week off; it looks like Leonardo DiCaprio is hotly tipped to star in Michael Mann’s upcoming sequel to Heat. If it is true that DiCaprio is one of the names attached to the Heat 2 cast, then this is massive. These are hot tips at this stage with Word of Reel getting word from a couple of sources on the potential casting which elevates this planned sequel to one of the great ’90s movie to an altogether different level.
The site says that this is a project that DiCaprio may film in 2026 alongside Martin Scorsese’s Hawaii-set crime movie with Dwayne Johnson – can’t wait for that one, either. The planned Heat 2 cast is being touted as an ‘all-timer’ with more names set to be announced soon. As the outlet says, the likes of Austin Butler and Adam Drive have also been mentioned previously.
The trades and Warner Bros., the studio where Heat 2 is set up ,haven’t confirmed any cast rumours as yet, but things could heat up in the coming weeks.
Heat 2 is out there already in novel form. The synopsis is as follows:
This new story leads up to the events of the film and then moves beyond it, featuring new characters on both sides of the law, new high-line heists, and breathtakingly cinematic action sequences. Ranging from the streets of L.A. to the inner sancta of rival Taiwanese crime syndicates in Paraguay to a massive drug cartel money-laundering operation just over the border in Mexico, HEAT 2 illuminates the dangerous workings of international crime organizations and the agents who pursue them as it provides a full-blooded portrait of the men and women who inhabit both worlds.
DiCaprio is front and centre this week after his new film, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, hits the promo trail in London with an arrival in cinemas next week. That film is also at Warner Brothers with awards being tipped for the project, the WB’s final release of their financial year.
More on the Heat 2 cast as it is confirmed. One Battle After Another will release in cinemas on 26th September.
