Caught Stealing might star both Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz, but the cast member everyone is talking about is Tonic the Cat who plays feline, Bud. Trained by Melissa Millett, Tonic the Cat already has credits in both the Pet Sematary remake and Thanksgiving, but it is his work as Bud in Caught Stealing that has won the world’s heart. Just how does one get such a stellar and memorable performance out of a cat? The animals are notoriously independent and, when compared to a dog, are impossible for most owners to even attempt to train. Luckily for Darren Aronofsky, Melissa Millet has over twenty-five years experience training a variety of animals with Tonic being just one in a long line.
