Disney’s ‘Zootropolis’ sequel tops the box-office

Disney’s Zootropolis 2 – known as Zootopia 2 stateside – has topped the U.S. box-office and de-throned last week’s number one, Wicked: For Good. The animated feature pulled in a massive $96.8 million over the weekend, a total of $154 million for the Thanksgiving 5-day weekend, ahead of Wicked: For Good‘s $62.8 M for the weekend, a 57% drop on last week. It has pulled in $270 million domestically since release.

The big news is that Zootropolis sequel managed to attract $556 million around the world over the weekend to become the biggest global opening of the year. It pulled in a huge $273 million in China including a massive $104 million on Saturday alone.

Elsewhere in the U.S. top ten, Now Your See Me: Now You Don’t held onto the number three spot with another $7 million in the bank, its total now sitting at $49.6 million stateside. At four is Predator: Badlands with $4.8 million in takings, that movie now up to $85 million for 20th Century Studios. Rounding out the top five is The Running Man with a further $3.7 million in the bank. The Edgar Wright-directed movie is now up to $34.2 million.

Next week sees the release of Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 which, I’m guessing won’t bother the top two, which is sure to still be dominated by the Wicked and Zootropolis sequels. We’ll see come next weekend.
