Kimberly Peirce Will Helm ‘The Brand’

Kimberly Peirce Image 2Kimberly Peirce, the director of confrontational films BOYS DON’T CRY and STOP-LOSS, may be awaiting the release of her remake of the Brian De Palma film CARRIE, but that hasn’t stopped her getting prepared for her next project. Peirce will direct THE BRAND, a film based on a New Yorker article by David Grann. The film will see U.S. Attorney Gregory Jessner prosecuting 40 members of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang. The script which originally adapted the article was written by Ric Roman Waugh, with later rewrites by Alessandro Camon.

I found a lot to admire in both BOYS DON’T CRY and STOP-LOSS, and I am very excited to see how Peirce tackles a more mainstream film with CARRIE. THE BRAND sounds more inline with her previous features, and it’s a case I’m not too familiar with. But that can change right now as I (and you) can read the original article here.

CARRIE is released in the US on the 18th October and in the UK on the 29th November. It stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Ansel Elgort, and Gabrielle Wilde.
