Famed documentarian Morgan Spurlock surprised many when it confirmed he’d direct the boy band of the moment One Direction’s tour movie, which will give fans of the pop group a chance to see them on the big-screen. Being as ancient as I am, I can remember the girls going crazy for new romantics, Duran Duran and of course bloody Bros, so some things never change. Then again, decades before it was The Beatles and The Bay City Rollers!
I haven’t a clue what these fellas sing, as thankfully my daughter has yet to be exposed to their terrible tunes but apparently they’ve a string of Number One hits after appearing on the telly. Well, that’s as much as I know (and care). However, for those fans out there who may have missed it, we’ve the full transcript of Spurlock’s Twitter Q&A session, giving an insight to the upcoming movie. It’s riveting stuff?
Thanks to all the fans who participated in the live Twitter Q&A with Morgan Spurlock, director of the highly anticipated 3D film ONE DIRECTION: THIS IS US which will rollout worldwide starting on August 30th. Here’s a transcript of the chat.

Q: Are the boys as excited as us to see the finished movie?
A: The band can’t wait to see it, but we’re ALL excited to see the finished film, aren’t we? – MS
Q: A camera has followed the boys round basically since kicking off, will you be using content from that?
A: We’ve been with them almost non-stop for the past 4 months, so there will be tons of genuine moments with them outside of tour life. – MS
Q: Will turn the scenes of the 1D film in Italy ?
A: I really wanted to capture the global feel of their first world tour, so we’ll be filming in Europe in May (incl Italy!) – MS
Q: Do the boys like having a camera follow them backstage??
A: Can be a little unnerving w/ a camera in your face all the time, but you build trust over time, now I’m just like a piece of furniture – MS
Q: Do the boys ever film each other? Or do u not trust them with that responsibility…;P
A: The lads have been both in front of & behind the camera. They’ve been filming each other on the tour bus & on days off, great footage – MS
Q: In the movie, do we get to see their family too?
A: We spend a lot of down time w/ the band, w/ their families & friends. We really wanted you to see what their “normal” lives are like. – MS

A: They love eating McD in front of me, but on the new tour they have a trainer who’s keeping them off the Big Macs! – MS

A: There have been some really lovely emotional moments that we’ve captured, I think fans may shed a tear or two while watching. – MS

A: Yes, they came up with it themselves. They really wanted it convey that it was them bringing you into their lives. – MS
Q: What made you take on the project with the boys? I know they’re irresistible and stuff but, hey …
A: They are one of the biggest bands in the world & to capture this moment in time is an incredible opportunity … and in 3D no less! – MS
Q: Is there a lots of bromance moments??
A: One of the things I really love about the lads is how much they care about and support each other. They really stand by one another. – MS
Q: Any shirtless moments??
A: More shirtless moments than you can imagine, now how many of those make it into the final film we’ll have to wait and see – MS
Q: Are you going to show the boys’ wild side?
A: You can’t film 1D without capturing their wild side! And that fun attitude is infectious, it takes over the whole film crew. – MS
Q: Eventually will we be able to get the movie on DVD?
A: There will definitely be a DVD, we’ve shot so much amazing footage, we’re never going to be able to pack it all into one movie! – MS
Q: Funniest thing that’s happened on the tour so far
A: We had some hilarious moments while filming in Japan. It was the band’s first time there and they were in awe of that city, and ROBOTS! – MS
Q: How is it to work with our boys?
A: Working with the band has been a real thrill. We’ve had some incredible moments both at their homes & on the road – MS

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
