V/H/S was one of those anthology horrors that certainly divided many audiences. Not to mention a number of THN’s very own contributors. While I found the film to have a number of ingenious ideas, it ultimately didn’t pack the same punch as others in the genre. Thanks to an ever tiresome found-footage format. Many believe the sub-genre just isn’t as effective as it once was, thanks to countless woeful sequels and rip-offs of money-making franchises, but we lived in hope and V/H/S deserved credit for attempting something wholly unique.
Speaking of sequels, V/H/S will soon unleash its very own, thought to be entitled S-VHS, but from the look of this first poster, appears to have dropped the upgrade and stuck with adding a simple ‘2’ instead.
The film did premiere to much acclaim at January’s Sundance Film Festival so perhaps genre fans who were not impressed first time around could give those the follow-up a go and those that did are sure to lap it up. There are segments directed by Jason Eisener, Gareth Evans, Timo Tjahjanto, Edúardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale and Adam Wingard and you can click on the link to check out the first trailer if you missed it. It’s released in the US 12th July.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
