Swedish Actor Per Oscarsson feared dead in house fire

Oscarsson and his wife reported missing by relatives.

Swedish actor Per Oscarsson, who co-stars in two films based on Stieg Larsson’s wildly popular Millenium book series, appears to be one of the victims in a house fire, according to police who spoke to the Associated Press on Sunday.

The remains of one person were found Sunday in the ashes of the house and considered likely those of the 83-year-old actor or his wife, 67-year-old Kia Ostling, a police spokesman said. Both were reported missing by relatives, who say the couple apparently was home when the fire destroyed the house early Friday.  Authorities are still searching for the remains of a second person at the property.

Oscarsson, described as a “giant of Swedish cinema,” has starred in more than 100 Swedish films and TV series. He was awarded a best actor award at the Festival de Cannes in 1966 for his role in HUNGER.

In the Swedish versions of THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS NEST, both based on the award winning books of the same names, the actor played Holger Palmgren, the legal guardian to the heroine, Lisbeth Salander.
