Gemma Arterton has reportedly been cast as the female lead in HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. In the film, Arterton will star as Gretel opposite Jeremy Renner‘s Hansel.
Variety reports that the film is an original take on the fairytale, and is set 15 years after the siblings killed the witch who kidnapped them. Hansel and Gretel have now evolved into bounty hunters who pursue witches.
Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick are producing the film will DEAD SNOW helmer Tommy Wirkola will direct.
It is thought that Renner will shoot this film in the eight weeks between jobs on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL and THE AVENGERS.
