Hi Ho! Disney Considering ‘The Muppet Show’ Live On Stage!

The Muppets Take Manhattan 2

So, there was recently the wonderful nostalgia trip of THE MUPPETS in 2011, and they’ve been filming in our sweet city of London for THE MUPPETS…AGAIN! which is due out next year but now I’m pretty darn excited to hear the news that they’re (possibly) due to put together a live theatre show for the great handmade heroes.

It’s been reported in Variety that Disney Theatrical Productions has been very quietly laying the groundwork for a possible live stage show. Supposedly, there has already been a little show of some kind directed by two-time Tony-nominated writer and director Alex Timbers. The word is that it’s a ‘concept’ and the performance gave us 85 Muppets and to really try the reality behind staging such a massive idea.

Disney Theatrical producer, Thomas Schumacher, said it was definitela “[It was] a test of concept,” but also that after the 15 minute presentation that the idea made him “[I’m] very intrigued.” There you go, a few snippets of maybes and possibliity but I think we know one thing for sure – it would be a massive favourite and surely a truly remarkable experience. In the meantime we’ve got the 2014 film to look forward to and in that, we’ve got Ricky Gervais and Pepe Prawn teasing us in this random clip, some first shots from the set in London and very possibly Christoph Waltz. Good times.
