HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s Neil Patrick Harris will be returning to Broadway soon, and his return will be a big one- John Cameron Mitchell & Stephen Trask’s HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. While the Broadway launch of the musical has no official date yet, it was announced that Neil Patrick Harris will be playing Hedwig.
The musical tells the story of a fictional rock band fronted by East German transgendered woman Hedwig Robinson. It follows her story as she tries to fight for recognition after an ex lover steals her songs. HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH was also made into a film in 2001, starring and also directed by John Cameron Mitchell. It was a huge festival hit, earning the Best Director and Audience Awards at 2001 Sundance Film Festival.
Patrick Harris spoke of joining the musical:
“I am simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig’s heels, It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role and I can’t wait to begin the journey.”
We are excited too, Neil!
