First Trailer & Poster For Steve McQueen’s ’12 Years As A Slave’

In his first two feature films, former artist turned writer/director Steve McQueen hardly put a foot wrong. Both the harrowing Bobby Sands biopic HUNGER and sex addiction drama SHAME were certainly riveting pieces of cinema that few would have wanted to revisit and his latest is another troubling, fact-based tale.

Reuniting with muse Michael Fassbender, 12 YEARS AS A SLAVE is an historical drama film based on the 1853 same-titled autobiography by Solomon Northup, who was a free black man who found himself kidnapped and sold into slavery in Washington D.C. during 1841 and forced to work on Louisiana plantations. Chiwetel Ejiofor portrays the tragic Northup in the film also boasting the fantastic supporting cast of Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt, Sarah Paulson and Paul Dano.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
