The first trailer for the WikiLeaks-inspired film THE FIFTH ESTATE was released today, and follows the events and lives of Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Daniel Domscheit-Berg (Daniel Brühl) leading up to a series of internationally recognisable and globally stirring information leaks. It is based on Domscheit-Berg’s book ‘Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website’ and David Leigh and Luke Harding’s ‘WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy’.

Though it feels to be a Bill Condon inspired [THE] SOCIAL NETWORK , what with a multitude of dramatic undertones and being equally technologically supercharged, with successes such as KINSEY on his resumé, expectations are high for THE FIFTH ESTATE. Despite it being well-received, Julian Assange hit out at the film, claiming it simply be nothing more than ‘”lie upon lie” and is in actual fact, “a massive propaganda attack on WikiLeaks and the character of my staff,” after reportedly having read the script.
THE FIFTH ESTATE opens in U.S Cinemas come October 11th, 2013 and in the UK on January 1st, 2014. It also stars actors Laura Linney,Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice van Houten.
