Lost in development hell? Thankfully no but there is a little tidbit of news for you all.
So it’s been what? Two years since Cloverfield caused a mass hysteria and motion sickness in theatres across the world and we’ve started asking some questions. Where the hell is the sequel?
The movie ended with a cryptic line of dialogue, hidden underneath the closing credits and pixellating images “It’s still alive” which implied we may not have seen the last of the cloverfield monster and its destruction of Manhattan Island. It was pretty bad-ass for a movie monster, ripping the head of the Statue of Liberty and throwing it casually down the street as it laid the mighty Chrysler Building to waste in the distance.
Director Matt Reeves, fresh of his remake Let Me In, was expected to take on Cloverfield 2 as his next project but that now looks not to be the case, with Reeves likely directing a lower budget thriller The Invisible Woman.
Talking to the guys blogging over at Movieweb, Reeves has revealed that Cloverfield 2 will not be next because it’s still in the ” nascent stages”, going on to tell the site that “We (Reeves and Abrams) haven’t really had time to get together and talk about what that would be. That journey will probably be a bit longer, when we find that idea that we really get excited about. We’re still hatching the story. It has yet to be hatched.”
There is no date for the release of Cloverfield 2 as yet but Reeves assured fans that it probably will happen but likened it to getting a band back together. They’re talking about it but it hasn’t happened yet.
Shame. I’m excited.
