J.J. Abrams & Jonah Nolan Team Up For HBO ‘Westworld’ Adaptation

Westworld

J.J. Abrams and Jonah Nolan are set to team up for a television adaptation of Michael Crichton’s 1973 science fiction classic WESTWORLD. HBO has given the potential series a pilot order with Nolan directing and Jerry Weintraub producing. The pilot is also being written alongside Nolan by Lisa Joy, known for her work on BURN NOTICE.

The original film starred Yul Brynner and took place in a future amusement park inhabited by androids where people pay vast amounts of money to indulge in different fantasies involving the androids. HBO’s logline for the adaptation states:

‘Set in the amazing world dreamt up by Michael Crichton, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin’.

This is the latest adaptation of the property, following the 1976 sequel FUTUREWORLD and the short-lived 1980 spin off television series BEYOND WESTWORLD. Should the pilot receive a series pick up, expect to see WESTWORLD on the small screen fall 2014. We’ll give you more details as we get them.
