Benedict Cumberbatch is so hot right now. Like Ryan Gosling, i appears he is being mentioned in regards to every role currently being cast in Hollywood. AT this point I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he’s up for the parts of Martin Luther King Jr. or even Wonder Woman. Since dropping out of Guillermo Del Toro’s latest, he’s been suggested for a role in STAR WARS EPISODE VII and is now rumoured to be negotiating for James Gray’s upcoming adaptation of THE LOST CITY OF Z.
Based on a book by David Grann, Cumberbatch is up for the role of Percy Fawcett, an explorer who ventured into the Amazon jungle to obtain proof of a lost city he had discovered previously, only to never be seen again. It’s an interesting and spooky sounding plot, but at the same time it sounds as though it is a case of fictionalised fact, which can sometimes be rather exploitative. Hopefully it will capture the right balance between entertainment, celebration, and truth.
