‘The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes’ Future Uncertain

THE-MORTAL-INSTRUMENTS-CITY-OF-BONES-Image-01-535x326It seems as though yet another another attempt at exploiting the love of YA novels has proven its own mortality. Although not officially cancelled, the sequel to THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES certainly seems to be headed that way. Constantin Films, the studio behind the hopeful franchise, announced that THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF ASHES has been delayed. It had been due to start filming over the course of the next few months with director Harold Zwart returning, but with only $39 million taken worldwide by the first installment, it doesn’t look as though it will reclaim its budget of $60 million. That’s a bad thing. There is hope that with DVD/Blu-ray sales or TV licensing, it may have a second life, but personally I doubt it.

The ‘delayed’ talk is probably just a way of preventing the talent from straying to far where jobs are concerned, but unless something magical happens, I believe this franchise is over. But there’s always hope. My fingers are still crossed for a LOST IN SPACE sequel titled STILL LOST IN SPACE, but that’s not looking likely.
