The Walking Dead

It looks like AMC is looking to expand on their smash hit zombie series THE WALKING DEAD starring Andrew Lincoln, which is set to begin its fourth season next month.

The network have announced that they will developing a new ‘companion series’ to their hit drama with an aim to release it in 2015. The series will be developed by existing producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert, as well as series creator Robert Kirkman who will also serve as an executive producer.

The series is said to showcase an entirely new set of characters within the existing world the network has created to give viewers a fresh perspective on life in a post-apocalyptic zombie inhabited world. Here is the official statement from AMC president Charlie Collier:

‘Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer, we look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.’

Here is also what Robert Kirkman had to say:

‘After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing’.

As always we’ll give you any updates we get on this exciting news, in the mean time however season 4 of THE WALKING DEAD will begin in the US on 13th October and the UK a mere 5 days later on 18th October on FOX.
