However, the night arguably belonged to the HBO movie BEHIND THE CANDELABRA. We’ve a full list of the winners of the best US entertainment has to offer on the small-screen last season and of course, there we’re a few surprises. As you can see, THE THICK OF IT’s Armando Ianucci’s satirical look at US politics did rather well in nabbing gongs for stars Tony Hale and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, while Netflix’s acclaimed take on the US adaptation of British political drama HOUSE OF CARDS saw David Fincher honoured for its pilot. As expected, Steven Soderburgh’s outstanding biopic of the extravagant latter years of Liberace saw him take home the award for Directing Best Miniseries, Movie or Special. Lead Michael Douglas also deservedly walked it with his portrayal of the late gay entertainer with the HBO film taking Outstanding Miniseries or Movie too. Fan favourite BREAKING BAD saw the underrated Anna Gunn land her first Emmy for her role of Skylar White with the series also awarded for Outstanding Drama Series.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
