Brad Furman To Brave Bodybuilder Biopic ‘Bigger’

Bigger Joe Weidmer Brad FurmanBrad Furman, the director behind the recent RUNNER RUNNER, as well as THE LINCOLN LAWYER, is gearing up his next project which he will both direct and script. Set during the Great Depression, BIGGER will follow the lives of Ben and Joe Weider on their journey to setting up the bodybuilding competition we all know as Mr. Olympia. Based on the memoir of the two brothers, Brothers Of Iron, it focuses on the young siblings raising themselves up from humble origins, as Joe begins weight training, and with the support of his brother, starts an empire of food supplements and publishing.

Created to allow Mr. Universe competitors and winners to continue in their careers, Mr. Olympia was responsible for turning weightlifting into a sport. The competition was the focus of the classic 1977 documentary, PUMPING IRON, which launched the careers of both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno. Whether those two behemoths will be characters in the film is yet to be determined, but I would love to see which actors they get for the roles.

His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
