Warner Brothers are looking to unite with production company Chernin Entertainment to bring a movie based around the British born ‘Gumball 3000’ rally to the screen.
The ‘Gumball’ is an annual race, now in its 15th year, which sees a group of people venture from one destination to another in the fastest, most glamourous cars on the planet, and hitting a party in a different location every evening. The race, which has ventured across Europe, the United States, Canada and Africa, was founded in 1999 by former race ar drive Maximillion Cooper, and each year sees a diffferent band of entrants take part. Celebrities like DJ David Guetta, David Hasselhoff, rap band Cypress Hill, actor Tamer Hassan, Danny Dyer, Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, co-founder of PayPal Ken Howery, Dennis Rodman, former champion jockey Richard Dunwoody and many other have all taken part over the course of the fifteen races.
This will prove to be quite a big project with Warners and Chernin’s backing as Chernin made this year’s high-budget blockbuster OBLIVION with Tom Cruise, and the comedy THE HEAT with Sandra Bullock.
We’re looking forward to this one, and interested as to how it will end up on the screen in terms of tone. We’re thinking a modern day CANONBALL RUN, chock-full of celebrity cameos?
Next year’s ‘Gumball’ race will kick off in Miami, and end up in the sun soaked Balearic island of Ibiza. For more on the rally, visit the official website.
