UPDATED: Classy New Character Banners Spotted For David O. Russell’s ‘American Hustle’

THE FIGHTER and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK director David O. Russell reunites with a number of his cast from those two aforementioned Oscar-winning efforts for 1980s-set crime comedy AMERICAN HUSTLE. It’s a story based on the infamous Abscam sting operation in which a skilled conman and his female partner teamed-up with an FBI agent and uncovered widespread political corruption in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Last night, brand new banners we’re spotted at press screening of the film which stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, Louis C.K., Michael Peña and Anthony Zerbe.

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper).  DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting.  Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

AMERICAN HUSTLE is slated to hit US cinemas from the 13th December and the UK 20th December. Another Oscar favourite we believe!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
