Having recently seen writer/director Alexandre Moors acclaimed biopic of the horrific killing spree perpetrated by two individuals in Beltway, Washington D.C. in 2002, I can honestly say BLUE CAPRICE is a superb, character-driven study of two disturbed individuals, with Isaiah Washington giving an outstanding central performance as the infamous D.C. sniper, John Muhammed. He was the depraved father-figure whose twisted look at the world saw him take abandoned young teen Lee Malvo under his wing, only to later lure him into claiming the lives of 10 innocent civilians as he fired a rifle from the trunk of their blue Chevrolet Caprice.
I highly recommend the fact-based thriller as a slow-burning insight in to one of America’s most heinous crimes but don’t expect an action-packed, procedural drama as the police try and track them down. This is all taken from the point-of-view of the two perpetrators and it’s one that will stay with you well after the credits roll.
BLUE CAPRICE, which premiered at this years Sundance Film Festival, co-stars Tequan Richmond, Joey Lauren Adams, Tim Blake Nelson and is currently available on Video-on-demand in the US.
