The exceptionally talented and grumpy Australian is set to star in Gabriele Muccino’s upcoming feature FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS. Penned by Brad Desch, scribe of the recent SHOTGUN LOVESONGS, the film is a love story between a father and daughter who live in Manhattan 25 years apart. Moving between the 1980s and present day, the film focuses on a widowed novelist (Crowe) battling mental illness and fame as he tries to raise his five year-old girl. In present day Manhattan that same five year-old has grown up and thanks to her eventful childhood is now facing a closet full of skeletons herself.
Muccino’s recent Will Smith vehicles (THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS and SEVEN POUNDS) certainly packed an emotional punch, and this new title looks set to follow suit. While it might be another pretentious attempt at Oscar mining, Voltage Productions have certainly got the skilfull performers they need to grip and move an audience.
