Ones to Watch: The Walking Dead Season Four

AMC’s hit zombie-survival drama THE WALKING DEAD returns to UK Televisions this Friday, and judging by the nail-biting first instalment, it’s sure to be one hell of a thrill ride. Back with a new showrunner and head-writer in the form of Scott M. Gimple (whose previous credits not only include scripts for THE WALKING DEAD, LIFE, and DA VINCI’S DEMONS, but also creating Disney’s genius cop/high-school fusion FILLMORE!), the show packs a perfect emotional wallop with a season opener that is gory, gutsy and amazingly tense.

All the surviving regulars (including Andrew Lincoln and fan favourite Norman Reedus) are back from Season Three, accompanied by a string of new faces, including SMALLVILLE’s Kyle Gallner and THE WIRE’s Lawrence Gilliard Jr. Whether they’ll survive to the mid-season finale is anyone’s guess, but with the ever hanging threat of death by walker present, it’s guaranteed that each episode will have viewers on the edge of their seats.

With the usual top-notch special effects work (the gore is glorious as ever), a smart and intriguing new status quo amongst the main characters, and some great direction from regular zombie-maestro Greg Nicotero, 30 DAYS WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT is a perfect opener that intrigues and perplexes whilst remaining as exciting and action-packed as we’ve come to expect from THE WALKING DEAD over the last three years. Based on the creepy cliffhanger this week, we’re in for some great shocks and surprises over the next fifteen weeks.

The Walking Dead returns to UK screens this Friday at 10pm, only on Fox UK.

From an early age, Matt Dennis dreamt of one day becoming a Power Ranger. Having achieved that dream back in the noughties, he’s now turned his hand to journalism and broadcasting. Matt can often be found in front of a TV screen, watching his current favourite shows such as DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, SHERLOCK, DAREDEVIL, and THE WALKING DEAD, though he’s partial to a bit of vintage TV from yesteryear. Matt also co-presents the Geek Cubed podcast, which you can download from iTunes. It’s quite nice.
