The man who was the first screenwriter to reportedly receive a seven figure amount for a script and helped relaunch Robert Downey Jr’s film career with KISS KISS BANG BANG, yes Shane Black is in final negotiations to direct IRON MAN 3.
Black, who created the hugely successful LETHAL WEAPON franchise, has only directed one film at this point, being the aforementioned KISS KISS, but with his relationship with Downey Jr and his history in the action genre, he should service the film well.
With the addition of IRON MAN 3, this makes Black a very busy boy as he is apparently attached to direct another comic book film in the form of the pulp hero, DOC SAVAGE, for Warner Bros. Also Warners has him attached to helm the American adaptation of the Japanese Manga, DEATH NOTE.
So all in all at least we know that the next IRON MAN will be filled with action packed explosions and laughs.
