Remember when you used to feel your heart sink at the mention of Ben Affleck’s name? Well thanks to his Academy Award-winning films THE TOWN and ARGO, that feeling has been pretty much eradicated (except when it was announced he would play Batman, then the feeling resurfaced momentarily).
Affleck is slated to direct and star in an untitled geopolitical thriller set in Africa. Sound familiar? The film follows mercenaries hired to murder a warlord who is terrorising his own people and is said to be:
‘Both an action movie and an examination of the moral ambiguities of how philanthropy and foreign assistance veers into modern day neocolonialism.” Affleck is no stranger to these sorts of genres as ARGO beautifully touches on these themes.’
Sadly we’ll have a few years to wait until the wheels are in motion for this project as Mr Affleck will be busy shooting BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and then immediately afterwards directing LIVE BY NIGHT, an adaptation based on the novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane.
