The Real Mandarin To Appear In Ben Kingsley’s Secret Marvel Project

The biggest hit of the year by some distance was Marvel’s Phase II opener IRON MAN 3. The solid action sequel, co-written and directed by Shane Black, did have more than its fair share of critics who believe comic-book nemesis, The Mandarin, was wasted in the film’s big twist. The ruthless terrorist, played by Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley, was in fact washed-up alcoholic actor Trevor Slattery hired by the real villain Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) to “give evil a face”.

Last week we reported Kingsley, while promoting sci-fi thriller ENDER’S GAME, revealed he was working on another secret Marvel project. He refused to divulge any information and it wasn’t sure if it could feature his IRON MAN 3 character or whole other new project. Well, we’re now hearing Kingsley will indeed return as Trevor Slattery in a forthcoming Marvel One-Shot short. The plot is expected to give us the first look at the real Mandarin, who is not at all happy with Killian and Slattery’s actions and may set up the villain for future instalments in the Marvel universe. More problems for Tony Stark?

Expect it to be included in either THOR: THE DARK WORLD or CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER home-entertainment releases.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
