Joe Cornish Set To Stun As ‘Star Trek 3’ Director!

A number of months we reported, in the wake of J.J. Abrams turning to the dark side with STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, that Paramount Pictures were looking at potential directing replacements for a third STAR TREK adventure. Apparently they were eying a number of contenders but were said to favour ATTACK THE BLOCK’s Joe Cornish, who also co-penned screenplays for Steven Spielberg’s animated epic THE ADVENTURES OF TIN TIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN and Marvel’s Phase III opener ANT-MAN (alongside director Edgar Wright).

We’re now hearing Cornish is the man the studio has reportedly settled on and could be officially unveiled in the coming months. The film would be a big step up for the former comedian with a budget considerably bigger than the one he had at his disposal on his indie creature-feature debut. Given his connection to Wright, Nick Frost and of course TREK’s Simon Pegg, we’re pretty sure this will be confirmed early in the new year.

Paramount is expected set the shoot the sci-fi sequel in the summer of 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
