Rocky and Bullwinkle are often viewed as not only some of the most beloved but also some of the most well known animated characters of all time. This year the original series THE ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE SHOW was voted the sixth greatest animated television show of all time by TV Guide. So it seems fitting that Dreamworks Animation have announced plans to produce a brand new short featuring the characters that will be released next year.
Its strange to think that the last time we saw these characters was in the live action film adaptation that was released in 2000, despite the fact that movie theaters have been practically flooded with animated films and adaptations of other cartoons ever since. Having said this the 2000 film received incredibly mixed reviews from critics and didn’t fare too much better at the box office either. The new animated short will bring back June Foray as Rocket J. Squirrel whilst Tom Kenny (SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS) will voice Bullwinkle J. Moose. Gary Trousdale (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) will direct the new short feature from a script by NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM writers Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant.
No word yet on where the short will premiere but expect to find out sooner rather than later. Meanwhile we’ll update you with any more news on this very exciting project and anything else related to ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE, here’s hoping we get another film soon!
