The monster success of James Wan’s highly-effective frightfest THE CONJURING saw New Line and Warner Bros. confirm a sequel in the works not long after its release. Yes, they’ll be more spooky stories featuring “fact-based” demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. While that project is still happening, with the original screenwriters Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes currently hard at work, we now have details of a spinoff centred on one of the film’s freaky creations…

THE CONJURING’s director of photography John R. Leonetti, whose previously helmed MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION and THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT 2 (oh dear), will take charge of ANNABELLE. The plot is expected to tell the origin of the creepily possessed child’s toy that was used to bookend the summers spooky smash hit. There are currently no cast attached but the film is expected to begin shooting in spring 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
