While it’s looking unlikely that fan hopes will be fulfilled, and Marc Webb’s Spidey-sequel will actually be called THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, next year’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 may be subtitled THE RISE OF ELECTRO – at least in Brazil.
Cinepop, a Brazilian film website, today revealed that the official title for the next Spider-Man film in the South American country will be O ESPETACULAR HOMEM-ARANHA: A AMEAÇA DE ELECTRO – which translates directly to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: THE RISE OF ELECTRO.
It may be that this subtitle will be used only in Brazil – it’s not unknown for films to carry different subtitles in different regions – but it’s likely we’ll know for sure when the first trailer arrives along with THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG. In any case, the Brazilian subtitle suggests that while the film is rumoured to be introducing the Sinister Six, with appearances from Electro, Rhino, Vulture and Harry and Norman Osborn, the focus for the first sequel will be squarely on Jamie Foxx’s blue-skinned baddie.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field and Dane DeHaan, is due for a UK release on 18th April 2014.
