Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ No Longer Filming In The UK

Ant-Man

Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD) has been promoting the DVD and Blu-ray home entertainment release of his final film in the ‘three flavours cornetto trilogy’ THE WORLD’S END starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Throughout his promotional interviews we have been getting tiny bits of information here and there on his next production which is of course Marvel Studios’ ANT-MAN which is set to shoot next year for a 31st July 2015 release.

ANT-MAN has received a fair amount of attention recently with Paul Rudd reportedly the front runner for the title role, which in my opinion would be a very fine choice. Now Edgar Wright has revealed that the film is no longer set to shoot this side of the pond as it had originally been planned to do. Many Marvel Studios productions over the past few years have taken advantage of the tax breaks that come with filming in the UK, such as CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD and next years GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Here is what Wright had to say on the matter:

‘Ironically, Ant Man was meant to shoot in London but London is full because I guess that Pinewood extension got turned down’.

‘While the tax-break is good for Hollywood films shooting here, it’s probably not that great for British films shooting in the UK,’ he said. ‘Some middle-to-low budget films are going to find themselves without crew because all the American films are shooting here’.

‘Ideally, it would be great to flip-flop between the two. I love shooting in the UK. It’s great’.

Lets just hope that this minor speed-bump doesn’t hold up the film at all and also that we get some casting confirmation’s soon. ANT-MAN will be released on 31st July 2015, check back with us for more updates on the film.
