‘Friday Night Lights’ creator Peter Berg has shattered the dreams of many fans today with the declaration “there’s not going to be a movie.” The NBC drama which ran for five seasons from 2006-2011 was based on the 2004 movie of the same name starring Billy Bob Thornton and there were hopes it would come full circle with a movie; following a high school Texas football team and the community behind it.
The man behind the movie and subsequent TV show Peter Berg had this to say regarding the possibility:
“There’s not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t; I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen.”
Starring Kyle Chandler as Coach Taylor and Connie Britton as his wife Tami the show won three Primetime Emmy’s during it’s five year run and despite a small audience was universally raved about by critics (except season two, don’t mention season two). As huge ‘Friday Night Lights’ fans here at THN, whilst disappointed we won’t get any more Riggins and Saracen screen-time, we can’t help feel this is the right decision owing to the hugely satisfying series finale which gave all the characters the send-off they deserved.
